What is osCommerce?

osCommerce is a popular open source shopping cart. With a huge userbase and variety of addons, it is now highly adaptable with the right developer.
Why do we use it?
Although osCommerce is a bit long in the tooth now, that makes it proven technology. This allows us to tap into the shared development experience of the community to make your osCommerce based shop do whatever you need.
Other reasons for using osCommerce:
- Stable platform - think of that massive community as a truly huge group of testers and it becomes clear that osCommerce has all of it’s problems ironed out
- Hugely adaptable - There are thousands of contributions (osCommerce plugins) created by the community. This allows a good developer to tune a shop to your exact requirements
- Free, and open source - find out why that is important to us here
Why should you have us develop your osCommerce site?
Although osCommerce has a huge following, it’s default installation is limited, and it is not easy to update the look of the site. Adaptable as it is, it takes experienced developers who understand their clients’ needs to truly take advantage of the platform. Our team has installed hundreds of templates and contributions on osCommerce and related sites, and have successfully developed unique features tailored to the requirements of the shop owner.
Other flavours
osCommerce comes in a variety of ‘loaded’ flavours, with an extended feature set. These are created by other development teams who have added the most popular contributions and repackaged osCommerce under a new name. These shopping cart systems have each spawned their own community and variety of addons.

Who else uses osCommerce?
At the time of writing, the osCommerce community has around 195,000 members, and over 14,000 shop owners have submitted their site to a growing list on the osCommerce site.
That provides something of a conservative estimate, as there will of course be thousands of shops that have not been submitted, and this does not take into account the communities that have taken advantage of the various osCommerce spin-offs.
