Reasons to Blog (part 1)

blog list

Up until a few years ago it was enough for a company to have any kind of Internet presence. Most were happy to have a few simple pages telling the customer what they needed to know and leaving it at that. As the Internet changes, so does its users’ demands and tastes. You’ve probably heard the word “blog” but few people realise its use in generating extra interest and business in your current website. In this article we will detail a few of the reasons a blog could be advantageous to you and your business.

Reason #1 -
Show a more personal, human side of your Company

A blog allows you to be more personal than you could be on your company’s website. A blog, by its very nature is going to be made up of opinions, whether they’re yours, your employees or your customers (in the way of comments on an article). Your existing website can be seen as more than just a place you want to sell your products (even if that’s what it means to you). It will make your website into a place where your customers are an organic part of your company, and are most valued.

Reason #2 -
Search Engines love blogs…well, regularly updated ones

Search Engines spiders feed on fresh content and it’s generally considered that the content on most companies’ websites isn’t expected to change regularly. This is where a blog can be a really useful tool, it gives the Spiders reason to come back to the site to look for fresh content, and the more often it finds some, the more regularly it’ll come back and look for more, increasing its rank in those Search Engines making your company easier to find.
However, be warned, if the blog’s only going to be given your attention once every couple of months or even less you won’t see anywhere near the same benefits.

Reason #3 –
It gives your customers a reason to come back

As has already been mentioned, the majority of information on a company website is static. This means that if a customer has visited your site once, maybe twice, they have no real reason to return. Make them. A regularly updated, well-informed blog could even make you and your company be seen as a respected voice in your particular field. Customers can even subscribe to your blog via an RSS feed meaning that they will know every time a blog article is published.
